Stereotactic Computerized Tomography Guided Suboccipital Transcerebellar Biopsy of Posterior Fossa Lesions
Pak Armed Forces Med J Dec 1997;47(2):51-3.
Department of Neurosurgery, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore
7 patients ranging in age from 16 to 55 years underwent stereotactic suboccipital transcerebellar biopsy of posterior fossa lesions. Leksell stereotactic frame was used under local anesthesia. Selection of trajectory was such that biopsy probe would traverse cerebellum. A definite diagnosis was obtained in all patients, 3 had astrocytoma, 2 had metastases, 1 had tuberculoma and 1 revealed pyogenic abscess. This technique is safe and reliable as there was no perioperative morbidity or mortality. Accurate tissue diagnosis of posterior fossa lesions resulted in administration of appropriate therapy and avoided empiric management.
