Fahr`s syndrome a Pediatric rarity
Pak Paed J Dec 2007;31(4):218-2.
Nishtar Medical College & Hospital, Multan
Fahr`s syndrome is a rare clinical entity consisting of certain metabolic, biochemical, neuroradiologic and neuropsychologic phenomena in which extra-pyramidal phenomenology clinically dominates. In this report, primarily for educational reasons, we are presenting a male child, who before admittance to our hospital, was examined by many doctors for his a-febrile and recurrent abnormal body movements and diagnosed as epilepsy or Wilson`s disease. However, as the symptoms and discomforts persisted, he was brought to our clinic and after the investigations, especially for the presence of extra-pyramidal signs with the presence of typical bilateral calcifications of the brain and basal ganglia, it was concluded that he was suffering from Fahr`s syndrome.
