Ann King Edward Med Coll Dec 1999;5(3,4):235-7.
Department of Neurosurgery K.E.M.C /LGH Lahore, Pakistan

The prospective study was carried out at Physiotherapy and out patient department of Lahore General Hospital from April 1998 to May 1999 on 100 patients . Purpose of the study was to prepare a comprehensive scale to evaluate low back pain. Since low back pain affects almost all aspects of one's life and influence about 80% of the population. So any advance in objective assessment of low back pain is of major importance. We have tried to present a new system for the evaluation of low back pain .Our Scale has classified Functional disability caused by low back pain into four subcategories i.e, Minor, Moderate, Moderately Severe and Severe. 14% patients suffered Minor, 30% Moderate, 21% Moderately Severe and 35% Severe Functional Disability. Our scale and classification light on all aspects of low back pain in a very precise manner and is much more valid, sensitive and applicable than other present scales and classifications. We strongly recommend to use this scale and classification in order to describe low back pain and Functional disability associated with it.
