In this article, we have attempted to provide a background for the current theories on the etiology of obesity, as well as describing the newer drug therapies being developed to combat this ever-growing problem. Despite still not beiong able to control the overeating of the majority of the population we are now able to target individuals at risk of developing obesity-associated morbidity and can offer effective treatment. This is a review article.
