Management of Peritonsillar Abscess

This study was conducted on fifty patients with peritonsillar abscess, in the Department of ENT Unit-I, Mayo Hospital Lahore during 1998-99. The objectives were, to study different treatment modalities in peritonsillar abscess and the importance of permucosal needle aspiration in the management of peritonsillar abscess. This study revealed that permucosal needle aspiration has a very important diagnostic role in peritonsillar abscess. On culture of the pus, mixed organisms were found in the majority of patients. All patients were admitted for appropriate intravenous antibiotics.
