Pak Postgrad Med J Dec 2000;11(4):145-7.
Services Hospital, Lahore

Percutaneous ultrasound guided aspiration of intra-abdominal collections / abscesses has now almost replaced the traditional surgical methods of drainage. Ultrasound helps to diagnose, localize and also toa>4 monitor the procedure of drainage. Under the direct vision of ultrasonography the procedure becomes very safe, and effective. Twenty three intra and extra peritoneal collections / abscesses were drained percutaneously under ultrasound guidance with satisfactory results. There were no significant complications of the procedure and no recurrence. Only one patient who had a huge multiocular liver abscess had to undergo a surgical drainage.
