Carcinoma gall bladder; an incidence study at Services Hospital Lahore

A prospective study of one year duration is presented in which 965 operations were performed including 10.8% (n=105) cholecystectomies with 75% females (n=79) and 25% (n=26) males. 10.4% (n=11) were proved to be carcinoma gall bladder including 63% (n=7) females and 37% (n=4) males with a male to female ratio of 1.7:1. 36% (n=4) had jaundice 83% (n=7) mass RHC as well, 82% (n=9) had gall stones. Cholecystectomy was performed in 63% (n=7) while 27% were dealt with internal biliary drainage 67% (n=7) died within 7 months period while 23% (n=4) are still alive. It was concluded that relative incidence of carcinoma gall bladder is higher (15%) in males as compared to (8.8%) females and early carcinoma gall bladder is asymptomatic but with good prognosis.
