Effects of large and multiple Myomas (fibroids) on the course of labor and mode of delivery

A prospective study was carried out at Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, Government Mian Munshi Hospital, Lahore and Saira Memorial Hospital, Lahore between January, 1998 to January, 2000. Twenty patients. were included in the study with large and multiple myomas alongwith pregnancy to study their growth in pregnancy, effect on labour, mode of delivery and perinatal outcome. Education level and social status was also studied to see their effect on perinatal mortality. Vaginal delivery was achieved in 55% of the patients and operative delivery in rest 45%. Mal-presentations due to huge myomas were 35%. Only 55% patients had specialist advice and regular antenatal care. Perinatal mortality was 25%. There was no perinatal mortality in the patients under specialist care.
