Chronic inversion of Uterus

Patients with chronic inversion of uterus were studied in one-year period in Lady Wallingdon Hospital and four year period in Services Hospital. Out of six patients five were of puerperal chronic inversion and sole non-puerperal case was due to sub-mucous pedunculated myoma. Age of these women ranged from 18 to 40 years. Parity ranged from 1 to 4. Main symptoms were foul smelling vaginal discharge, metrorrhagia and perineal heaviness. Pyriform vaginal mass with firm cervical rim at upper end, absence of uterus at its proper position and inability to pass a probe into endometrial cavity were diagnostic signs of inversion in all cases. All chronic puerperal invasions were treated surgically by Haultain and Huntington method. Non-puerperal chronic inversion was managed with vaginal hysterectomy.
