Large size inguinal Hernia repair: Double breasting of external oblique is useful

It is a prospective study, conducted at Surgical Unit III of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, in which 217 male patients were entered from February 1997 to April 1999. The patients were divided into Group A (119 = n) and Group B (98 = n). In Group A (n = 119) double breasting of external oblique with proline No. 1 were performed while in Group B (n = 98) Darning and simple refrain of external oblique with proline No. 1 were done. Both groups were followed up for one year at one-month interval. The rate of recurrence was zero in groups A as compared to 4% in Group B. It was concluded that double breasting of external oblique in large size inguinal hernia is useful.
