Prevalence of dental fluorosis in Karachi

Objective: To find out the Prevalence of Dental Fluorosis among school going children aged 9 - 18 years. Study Design: The Cross-sectional study comprised of school children in Karachi, Pakistan. 327 subjects including 186 males and 141 females participated in the study. Results: The results of the study showed that the Prevalence of Dental Fluorosis was 33.7%, which is comparably higher than the study conducted in USA in 1986-87 among the same age group. Conclusion: There is an increase level of dental fluorosis in Karachi, Pakistan, So Fluoride contents in drinking water has to be decreased by different methods of fluoridations and the high fluoride content toothpaste should not be recommended to the patients having fluorosis.
