Use of Seton in complicated anal fistula: A study at Sindh Govt. Qatar Hospital, Karachi
Pak J Surg Apr - Jun 2003;19(1):25-9.
Department of Surgery, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital, Orangi, Karachi
This study was carried out on 45 patients who were treated in the Dept. of Surgery at Sindh Govt. Qatar Hospital, Karachi for anal fistula of either the trans-sphincteric or the extra-sphincteric type by Setons. In 38 (88%) patients there were no complications after the procedure, but 7 (12%) had minor problems of the continence. In one case the fistula recurred. The mean hospital stay of the patients was two days. The follow-up consisted of 8- 12 outpatient visits. We, therefore, conclude that the use of the Seton after partial fistulectomy for complicated anal fistulae reduces the incidence of incontinence, with a very low recurrence rate.
