Significance of Gleason system for grading and scoring of prostatic carcinoma

A total of 485 prostatectomies were processed at Anwar Clinical Lab swat over a period of three years (2001–2003). Adenocarcinomas were found in 49 biopsied specimen. Gleason Grading was done for the adenocarcinomas. It was found that majority of the carcinomas presented in Gleason grade 3. It was also noted that the higher score carcinomas had a propensity for the older age group. A few queries regarding the Gleason grading and scoring system are also discussed for such a common carcinoma of men.
