Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy & bile duct injury without on table cholangiography
Pak J Surg Oct - Dec 2003;19(2):90-2.
Department of Surgery, Nishtar Medical College & Hospital, Multan

Fear of common bile duct (CBD) injury while performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is common. A number of techniques have been devised to prevent such injuries. On table cholangiogram (OTC) is widely practiced in the western world. In Pakistan OTC is not commonly used mainly due to technical difficulty and financial reasons. The author is reporting 1000 consecutive cases of cholecystectomy performed without OTC. The results clearly show that there is hardly any difference as far as the CBD injury is concerned, provided we have a good back up by a radiologist for pre and postoperative ultrasound and ERCP.
