Pak J Surg Oct - Dec 2003;19(2):109-11.
Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 20 Field Hospital, Chunian
This is the case report of an abdominal pregnancy which proceeded till term, and resulted in a healthy neonatal and maternal outcome without any congenital malformations, which is a rare occurrence. Ultrasonography revealed the foetus lying outside the uterus. At laparotomy foetal membranes were lying under the abdominal wall. An alive male baby was delivered with good apgar score. The whole placenta was attached to the right border of the uterus getting adequate blood supply, which is the reason for the healthy foetal outcome. Uterus and placenta were removed enbloc due to profuse bleeding from the placental margins, four units of blood were pushed intra operatively. The patient had smooth recovery from anaesthesia, and both the mother and the neonate remained healthy.
