Microbiology of chronic Suppurative Otitis Media with Cholesteatoma in Peshawar Pakistan

Chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma (COMWC) is serious and significant problem in Peshawar, Pakistan, but there is not a single study on microbiology of COMWC form here. The Objective of this study was to determine the Microbiology of CSOMWC in the patients attending Hayat Abad Medical Complex Peshawar, Pakistan. Methods: This Observational study was designed to study the microbiology of 22patients with clinical diagnosis of CSOMWC and the swabs were taken for aerobes and anaerobes intro operatively. Results: Out of 22 pairs of swabs for aerobes and anaerobes from 22 patients, 95.5% and 4.5% were cultured positive and negative respectively. The most frequent organism was Enterococcus 36.3%, and Pseudomonas aeroginosa 31.8%. The non sparing anaerobes Becteroids was 9.09%. The common aerobic pathogens are sensitive to ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: Information on Microbiology of COMWC and antibiotic susceptibility of offending bacteria, in our region, will be helpful in management of COMWC.
