Mammography at NORI

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in females and leading cause of death to the 40-50 years age group. The incidence is Increasing. Effective screening with the help of BSE: mammograph and clinical examination can he beneficial in early detection and treatment, thereby reducing the mortality and morbidity from this disease. Mammograms are routinely done at NORI for screening and diagnostic purposes. In the year 2003, out of 158 mammograms done for screening purposes in asymptomatic females, 2.5% were positive. In 05 diagnosed breast cancer cases, mammography contralateral breast was positive iii 3% of patients. Diagnostic mammograms were done in 5-1 patients out of which 30% were positive.
