Intestinal Parasitosis and Oral Ulceration: Short Case Report

A young man of 31 years reported on 4th January, 2000 for a ruptured bullous lesion with ulceration and a loose whitish adherent, necrotic epithelium on the lower lip on left side. The lesion was of 6-7 days duration. The patient gave history of occurrence of similar lesions at various places in the mouth, which persisted for 7 to 10 days and then subsided automatically and to reoccur after sometime. Healing and occurrence alternated with each other for the last few months. Associated abdominal discomfort was also experienced by the patient. The patient was advised to use Fasigyn (tinidazole) 2gm as a single dose to be followed after two days by a single dose of Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) lgm and to repeat the courses after every 15 days for 2 months. He was also advised to report or inform about the recurrence if any. The patient reported after fifteen days with healing of the lesion and no history of recurrence. Follow up of the patient was continued and since then no complaint has been received from him so far. This case report substantiates the previous findings that oral ulceration may be a manifestation of intestinal Parasitosis.
