Cutaneous leshmaniasis

A total of 384 biopsy specimen, 126 during 1996-97 and 158 during 2002-03 taken from chronic ulcers of skin were processed. 7 (5.5%) and 16 (10%) cases of leishmania were diagnosed on H & E stained slides during 1996-97 and 2002-03 respectively. The corresponding slides were reviewed. A similar histopathology proven biopsy specimen were reviewed for the years 2002-2003.The incidence of leishmania was noted to have raised two folds.
