Acute chest syndrome is a frequent and potentially severe pulmonary illness in patients of sickle cell disease. Rapidly progressive pulmonary infiltrates, tachypnea, dyspnea, hypoxemia and chest pain characterize acute chest syndrome. Rapid recognition and prompt treatment of acute chest syndrome is essential because it often leads to death particularly in adolescents. A case of acute chest syndrome is presented who responded to exchange transfusion.
