The Effect of Captopril on Blood Glucose Level

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of captopril on glucose metabolism in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients with hypertension. Thirty NIDDM patients with normal blood pressure were taken as control and 60 NIDDM patients with mild to moderate hypertension were studied. Captopril was given in fixed dose of 25 mg twice a day. Treatment was maintained for two weeks, fasting blood glucose level tests performed during the study, showed the hypoglycaemic effect of captopril to be significant when given with glibenclamide and non significant when given alone.
