Obesity – An evidence based approach to treatment

More than 16% of adults in Pakistan are obese, and as a result at an increased risk of undue morbidity and mortality. Basic treatment of obese patients require a comprehensive approach involving behavior modification to bring about changes in dietary and physical activity patterns with an emphasis on long term weight loss and maintenance of weight loss. Medications for the treatment of obesity should be thought of only as an adjunct to the behavior modification approach and for most Pakistanis is not a feasible option.
