Home health care nursing program is a great necessity for Pakistani population-to be accessible to them at their door step and deliver quality services. Looking at this mandate, the Aga Khan University Hospital took leading role, to start first home health care nursing program from January 2002. It was accepted very well by all its customers and the demand increased from 10 patients/month to now 600 visits/month. The measurement of quality assurance standards shows that in spite of growth in volume, the home health care nursing program was able to achieve the set targets of quality assurance program and patient satisfaction survey indexes. It also reduced the overall cost to the patient along with convenience of receiving treatment in familiar surrounding with good quality hospital services. There is a need to increase this service by extending it to the Family Medicine Centers being established within the community setting.
