Association of Diabetes Mellitus type-II with chronic Hepatitis C virus infection

OBJECTIVE: Study was performed to see the association of Diabetes Mellitus Type-II with Chronic Hepatitis C virus infection. METHODS: 90 cases of Chronic liver disease proved on clinical, Ultrasonograhic and Histopathological grounds, and diabetes mellitis patients were studied. HBsAg and Anti Hepatitis C Virus was done in all patients and Serum ferritin and ANA was done in those patients who were negative for viral markers. RESULTS: Out of 90 patients of Chronic liver disease and Diabetes Mellitus, 70 (77.77%) were positive for Anti Hepatitis C Virus, 21 (23.33%) HBsAg positive, 8 (8.88%) cases having co-infection. One each case was proved to be of Hemochromatosis and Autoimmune hepatitis. CONCLUSION: Chronic Hepatits C infection is strongly associated with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
