research on stroke reabilitation??? Any body interested

thank you both of you for your comments and suggestions.........Actually what i am planning is not simple epidemiological study on the stroke incidence and prevalence. being a resident in rehabilitation medicine i am more interested in getting more information on a very very neglected aspect of stroke management i.e Stroke rehabilitation.
I would still like to residents in medicine ( and specifically in neurology to come forward
and help me in data collection. i am nowadays working on
"Social problems of stroke survivors in Pakistan"
It is a simple questionnaire based study and inclusion criteria is all patients of stroke, both genders who had stroke at least one year ago. the filling of questionnaire takes 3-5 minutes... i am already in correspondence with colleagues abroad and this research has been discussed with editors of international journals on rehabilitation medicine.I am pretty sure that
if we get data on around 500 stroke survivors this will get published abroad.so again if any body is interested in this research proposal please mail me and we can work out the details ........

PS: of course your name will be in the article

Re: Collaborative research in Pakistan

The idea is good. But for epidemiological studies like prevalence of stroke need population based studies rather than hospital based study. We have enough hospital based data from all quadrants of Pakistan regarding frequency of cerbral hemorrhage/infarction. The need is to conduct well designed population based study like the oxfordshire stroke study. Lets hope that somebody may take the initiative.

Re: Collaborative research in Pakistan

You may consider discussing such a project with Dr Saad Shafqat and Dr Mohammed Wasay, who are reputed stroke neurologists at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.

Collaborative research in Pakistan

Taking the lead from Mr aftab... i was wondering the other day that we dont have even basic statistical data about the incidence and prevalence of various diseases in Pakistan ... and all of us in examinations, papers , presentations quote the figures from the west and are blank or apologetic once a foreign delegate asks about the burden of a certain disease in Pakistan...
since stroke is my field of interest so i have a proposal specially for coleagues in neurology or medicine that why dont we undertake a multi centre study on the prevalence and characteristics of Stroke in PAkistan. Here what i have in mind
1. I would like that atleast 04 centres (one from each provincial capital should participate)
2. Ideally the study should be conducted in a medical unit having dedicated neurology ward or stroke clinic
3. I would like it to be a 2 year prospective observational study
4. i have already designed the data collection proforma and would discuss further details with any body who is interested in this research project
5. If properly conducted and executed it may turn out to be the biggest epidemiological study on stroke in Pakistan with every chance of being published in an international journal
6.I can do all the data analysis, interpertation and article writing. all i need are dedicated colleagues who would help in data collection
7.If any body's interested he/she may mail me with Stroke research in the subject box

PS: this is only the begining.... if it turns out to be successful i intend to go for other studies as well

Re: Collaborative research in Pakistan

Well
i second you.
there is strong need of colaborative research in Pakistan, and i think all the departments should be interlinked so that we can make a better research with less expanditures and in much better way. there is lack of coordination in basic research and clinical research and that should be improvied.
Anyhow in order to reduce the communication gap between youg researchers and Doctors we have made a forum to keep the doctors and scientists upto date with modern research and i think maximum people should join it so that they can have benifit out of it.
