Re: Re: Re: DEFINING OUR ROLE IN R&D
Thanks a lot for replying. I am also in the process of learning and gaining research experience. Its a matter of time but I can assure you whenever I will be done with my training I will try to generate some plans. The thing we are lacking is the brainstorming sessions. We guys used to think much about USMLE and PLAB stuff because of the financial insecurity and non-stability of healthcare budgets rather than instability.
I will try to figure it out. It would be great if we used to remain in touch with such forums as these act as portals for us to channelize the way what we are looking for!!!!!!!!

Re: Re: DEFINING OUR ROLE IN R&D
Dear Dr. Usman,
It is really heartening to read the points you raised, as all these are the matters of fact. That's why i have already emphasized the need of being frist drop of the rain from both sides i.e. healthcare industry and pharmaceutical industry.Because every body has his/her own business interests and if i cant gather the whole industry for this cause, ATLEAST i can initiate this process with the resources available to me. I am sure that a single well planned and well designed step in this direction can play a role of morale booster for all concerned. This would also help us to retain the medical students inside pakistan doing their primary job despite looking for PLAB or marketing or administrative jobs.
Looking for your further support for some practical demonstration.
Best Regards

Re: DEFINING OUR ROLE IN R&D
Assalam o alaikum
It is great idea but we should try our best to make it practically feasible.
There are few points that need attention:
1. Pharmaceuticals are doing marketing and medical professionals are gaining benefits by contributing a pivotal role in the marketing of their products. We need to get out of this circle if we want to contribute something in R&D.
2. The financial condition in our health industry is known. Pharmaceuticals need to sponsor such studies in collaboration with dedicated medical professionals who are working in university setup to conduct those studies.
3. We do need to make some of guidelines as far as research studies are concerned especially on clinical grounds with regards to ethical issues.
4. Medical students should be encouraged to utilize their time in formulating some plans in collaboration with their faculty members and this would help them a lot in pursuance of their clinical careers as well.
5. Pharmaceuticals should arrange for some clinical research workshops defining highlights and protocols of clinical research. This would be beneficial for both pharmaceutical and medical professionals as this is the line of demarcation between our medical graduates and graduates from foreign countries. Graduates from foreign countries know research protocols in basic sciences and clinical sciences before graduation. This will be very helpful in defining career lines for medical graduates since no career couseling is available in the most prestigious sector!!!!
In that regard, I will try to think other aspects as well.

DEFINING OUR ROLE IN R&D
Dear All,
You will agree to the point that we all are a part of very critical field of healthcare industry. Perhaps need of ethics and values for the professionals working in this particular avenue is many times more than any other field.
Being a pharmaceutical marketier, first of all, i admit that we (pharma industry)are doing every thing to attract healthcare professionals towards us and ONE THING which is needed and we are NOT doing is the RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT in medicine.
Obviously we have to start from somewhere and some one has to be the first drop of the rain, as our dependency on foriegn trials, conclusions and recommendations is hurting our people in more than one way.
In my opinion, only you, who are the driving force of our healthcare system, can encourage good corporates to enter into this endeavor despite doing left/right kind of activities, which have no value addition to your profession or clinical needs.
In this perspective, in my capacity, i would love to have suggestions and recommendations from your side regarding setting up a practical platform, where healthcare professionals and pharma industry can sit together in order to analyze our needs for CLINICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT and i assure you that it can be a starting milestone for a valueable process.
Also, if any one from you finds me of any kind assistance in relavence to this subject, please do not hesitate to contact me.
