Re: Changes in UK Visa policies for overseas doctors!

Few Questions:

1. why do ppl want to go to UK?
2. Is Uk training system good enough?
3. Do most ppl who go from pakistan ever get into a formal training program because being a house officer or registrar always doesnot mean you are in a training program.
4. does UK experience improves your Fiscal Condition.
5.Is UK system any easierto get in than north american system.
6. Are Living conditions in UK conducive for South Asians currently.

For me the answer to all these questions is a big NO.All I can say that we should stop thinking about training in UK and think of other avenues.

Changes in UK Visa policies for overseas doctors!

In future work permits will only be issued where there is a specific post for the overseas doctor which cannot be filled by someone from within the UK or Europe

Any NHS Trust wishing to employ a doctor from outside Europe wil have to prove that Bristish or European doctor cannot fill the vacant post, thereby ending the current permit-free training arrangments for doctors from countries of Asia and Africa. At present, for immigration purposes, International Medical Graduates (IMG's) in training posts are considered as being ` in training ', and not in employment. This will no longer be the case and these will now be considered as employment posts.

As such, NHS Trusts will be required to obtain a work permit for every doctor that they wish to employ from outside Europe. However, the DOH will continue to work with the General Medical Council to ensure that IMG's who are interested in working or training in UK understand exactly what type of job and training opportunities exist.

If a trainee has valid leave as a postgraduate Doctor, he can continue in his current post and take up any other relevant training at the expiry of the leave. If they want to remain in the UK beyond this time, they will need to meet the requirements of a relevant category within the Immigration Rules, such as the work permit system. If they do not meet these requirements, then they will have to leave UK. Work permits will only be issued where there is a specific post for overseas doctor which cannot be filled by someone from within the UK or Europe.

Those doctors already in post and with existing leave to remain, will not be affected. However, they will not be eligible to extend their contract or their permit-free time. If their leave expires before the end of the post, they will need a different catagory of leave to complete the post i.e. work permit.

With regard to future trainees who wish to spend some time training them selves at centres in UK under the sponsorship arrangments, this may still be possible but the relevant employer (hospital) will need to apply for a work permit before employing the candidate. The hospital will have to demonstrate to the work permits (UK) that there are no suitable European nationals who can take up the post.

The hospital must apply for a work permit on behalf of the doctor and when issued, the doctors themselves will then need to apply for leave to remain as a work permit holder. Those already in the UK with leave remaining and due to continue training beyond their current leave to remain, can switch into leave as a work permit holder (not those with leave as a Visitor or Dependent).
