I dont know much about PIMS but if you are really interested I can suggest you to try Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. The website is www.shifa.com.pk

You can search the name of attending whom you want to do your rotation/elective. Most are Board certified and setup is simulating with US. Just email that attending and look for response that how to proceed in that regard.

You mentioned you are interest in Hematology/Oncology too. The best thing is to do elective in Shaukat Khanum Cancer Research Hospital in Lahore. They have even accomodation slots for students who want to do electives. You can search from their website www.shaukatkhanum.org.pk
Click Careers then click medical/clinical job opportunities then click medical student elective. Download application, complete it and fax them.

Pediatric elective at PIMS (for US MS4)??

Hi everyone,

I'm sending this inquiry about PIMS because I'm not sure how to start this
process. I'm US born, with parents from Pakistan. I'm a third-year female
medical student (7th year MD/PhD student) at the Univ of Pittsburgh in
Pennsylvania. I speak Pushto fluently in addtion to English, but I'm not really
fluent in Urdu (I can understand most of it but not speak much, since my
parents don't speak it). Anyway, I will be graduating from Univ of
Pittsburgh in May 2008, and I was wondering about how to organize a 4-wk Pediatric
elective rotation in Pakistan, probably one year from now (March/April 2008 ) when I'm late in 4th year?

I was impressed by the PIMS website on the Internet. My
interest is in Pediatrics subspecialties, such as Neonatology, Heme/Onc, or Infectious Disease. I would really like to visit a Children's Hospital in
Pakistan.

Please offer me any guidance or suggestions for setting up an away rotation at PIMS. I especially need the names/info of persons to contact
via email, perhaps in the Office of Student Affairs, because the PIMS website only has phone numbers listed (it's under partial construction). There
are many students from my school who go to India every year, but none to
Pakistan, so I'm unfortunately I'm trying to set this elective up from scratch
