Role of small RNA in prokaryotes
Small RNA in Prokaryotes
Small RNA are the hot area of biological science now a days, RNAi is a major reseach area in eukaryotes and 2006 Nobel prize of medicine was given on the discovery of RNAi.
In addition to eukaryotes it is also reported that small RNA or s RNA also have role in prokaryotes. A such example is the presence of SgrS RNA which is 200 bases long in E.coli. and it has an important role in metabolism. It work under stress condition when bacterial cell accumulate two much glucose. So when glucose level increases in bacteria this SgrS RNA play two important role. It binds to m RNA that encode for transporter protein and stop or blocks it translation. In addition it binds to transporter of glucose protein and blocks it activity.
This is not only the single small RNA reported in bacteria but its among the 80 known bacterial small RNA that has different role and that are discovered so far. Another small RNA is a 500-nucleotide molecule that regulates virulence genes in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
So with the passage of time we are getting new and interesting topics in science and many interesting molecules are known today that were previously unkown and now it is proved that they are playing an important role and many gaps that were lacking in literature are filling now.
