Surgical scars are very important in PACES and you are always asked to relate the scars to your presumed diagnosis.

Surgical scars related to cardiovascular system

Midline sternotomy scar

Causes
• CABG
• Open Mitral Valvotomy
• Mitral valve Replacement
• Aortic Valve Replacement
• Total correction of Fallots
• Mediatinal surgery



Left thoracotomy scar

Causes
• Closed Mitral Valvotomy
• Blalock - Taussig Shunt for Fallots



Left or right infraclavicular scar

Causes
• Permanent Pacemaker (PPM)
• Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD)
