Re: Viral Hemorrhagic Fever

It seems to me that she did develop DIC which was irreversible and lead to her death. Keep posting the serology and virology results. Autopsy?

Viral Hemorrhagic Fever

One of our doctor collegue recently developed sudden onset of high grade fever along with drowsiness, diarrhea and generalized aches/pains. She was found to have very derranged DIC profile and thrombocytopenia. Initial suspicion of Septicemia/DIC was made and treated accordingly. However, her condition kept on deterioting and she started having Hematemesis, Malena, Gum Bleed and Vaginal bleed.

Within 24 hours, she developed respiratory depression and put on Ventilator. Considering this condition, suspicion of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever was made. No measures for isolation were taken before this diagnosis.

National Institute of Health was informed. They immediately take care of all the situation and isolated the patient. Gloves and masked were started. And contact attendents and doctors were identified.

She was put on IV Ribavarin also. Later on, despite 45 FFPs and 30 Blood transfusion, she was unable to come out the illness and Died. Total duration was around 72 hours.

Blood sampling for viral serology is on the way. 3 other doctors are having fever and flu like symptoms and put under observation.

In our poor undeveloped country, Doctors have no protection and are at high risk. They neither are given any extra benefits like insurance for such kind of mishaps.
