Re: Analysis of Acid-Base Status

Combined acidosis can occur in patients with respiratory depression and sepsis (multi organ failure). Sometimes a toxin can cause effect on both respiratory and renal functions and can lead to this combined disorder.

Analysis of Acid-Base Status

AoA.While preparing for FCPS-1 Med. I came across a question in which following lab values are given. pH=7.25,PCO2=48,HCO3=17.No other data given. The diagnosis is asked. Now I have been preparing physiology from KAPLAN notes, which state that it is a COMBINED RESPIRATORY and METABOLIC ACIDOSIS.Is there any clinical condition in which combined acidosis occurs??If any senior doctor has a clue, kindly let me know.THANKS IN ANTICIPATION.
