Yup. That's rite. Iron lost via menstrual blood not being replaced in diet... So any senior members on the forum kindly advise all juniors regarding what sort of diet should be used in Iron deficiency ?? Red meat or whatever ??

As far as our results show, this anemia is most probably related to menstrual blood loss in females and "junk" food.

Interesting, have you noticed any other evidence of malnutrition? low BMI, low albumin etc.
Do you guys think this is all due to iron deficiency or there may be other reasons for hypochromic microcytic anemia?

Thanx Usman. we had done peripheral blood morphology in all these anemic persons and most of them had microcytic hypochromic anemia. this study will be published soon

Re: ANEMIA AMONG FEMALE MEDICAL STUDENTS
Well in my humble opinion first of all it should be documented whether this anemia is normocytic normochromic, or hypochromic microcytic ( on the basis of peripheral blood picture). Only then would we able to comment on the etiology of this anemia.
