Re: ACTIVE CASE DETECTION IN TB

Contact tracing is only done in countries with low case burden or in special circumstances as this is happening now in MDR TB investigation in Hmong refugees in Thailand.

Re: ACTIVE CASE DETECTION IN TB

What kind of intervention is in your mind?

If NTP recommends screening of contacts, then you can do a study to check the feasibility of this recommendation. I don't think that it will qualify as an 'intervention'.

On the other hand, you may want to consider cost-benefit analysis (which is again not an intervention).

ACTIVE CASE DETECTION IN TB

for researchers and epidemiologists

the ususal practice of the health care system is to detect the tb patients passively. i.e. to do the screening among the patients who come to the health care facility.so this is a passive approach.

as we know that the burden of tb is very high in pakistan. our case detection rate is still around 37%. and the incidence of disease is 180/100000.

so whay about to do the active screening for teh tb. i.e to acitve case detection. first step shoud be contact tracing. as we know that the tb the more coomn in contacts of tb patients rather than the general population. NTP also recomend the screening among the contacts.

what about to do a study to trace the tb among the family members of the tb patients. what shoud be appropriate study design. may be a interventional study. then to compare with the other. e.g. to take 4 districts with equal case detection rate. hten do intervention in two and compare with the other two at teh end of study.

pl give yr feedback.
