Go ahead , do it..... chances wax and wane so don't sweat them. luck favours the prepared one. Be the one. you should be ready to cash in on any cropping opportunity when and where it comes your way. In the end , you will---I hope--- have least to regret and ---- I pray---- much to rejoice about.

i wud first ov awl appreciate dr farhan who is really pproviding thoghtful and reallisitic info and advices...
this has provoked me to put up my ambiguity regarding my field that is g.surgery for a piece ov advice from you, im presently doing my g.surgery training and plan to do MRCS alongwith, and then go for a second fellow ship or any reasonable job in gulf saudia or uk/usa?
now can you tell me what are the realistic prospects ov getting training in uk/usa havng done FCPS/MRCS?
andd wud it b wise to do FCPS in some speciality and then go for superspeciality rather ??

Varieties of future possibly available to those with MRCS have been discussed almost threadbare in above posts. Please read.
Being FCPS 'may' help you earn some respect in their eyes while competing for a position on the assumption that you are arguably more learned and better exposed than others in the 'ring' but you don't and will not have any legal status there on this very basis.
Consider US out of bounds for any aspiring surgeon who is foreign graduate unless with a (master)stroke of luck you clinch their green card and then boast flying colours in USMLE etc etc.
I don't subscribe to FCPS general surgery any more...There is a plethora of general surgeons already. Unless you are willing to be content and comfortable with the concept of living in some remote stretch of land serving humanity and yourself rest of the life, don't be just a general surgeon. You must go for some speciality or super speciality as you deem fit but of course you need to have a solid foundation in general surgery and therefore don't take a walk through their corridors lightly. This will determine your quality as a surgeon at the end of the day.

I am medical student. I have decided to go for general surgery and then sub speciality in vascular surgery.
and then do MRCS and Frcs. is that path right? please correct me if i am making some mistake. and problems i'll face

I don't really know if there is any training program for vascular surgery being conducted anywhere in pakistan. There are many who brag about themselves as being vascular surgeons in their individual capacity but few who really are and no one is part of any such accredited teaching program. Actually CPSP is impotent as usual and as expected to this end thus far so question of accreditation in itself is preposterous whatsoever even if there were ever any such pipedreams. Ironically even training for those programes which are being so called directed by this "reputed" body, is at best pathetic despite their tall claims.
Anyways not planning to cast any gloom on your ambitions, I would suggest you to do your FCPS general surgery and meanwhile focus on your british channels for any prospective training in vascular surgery. For that you should start from scratch ,that is, do plab , MRCS, have standard publications in standard journals and then apply. Have faith in God with as unshakable will as devil's(sic) to make impossible , possible. Good luck.

Hello all,
Nice to see that lots of information are being shared here. I found some of them really very helpful.
I have completed MBBS in 2009. Can anyone tell me what opportunity I may get if I complete PLAB? I am willing to do my career in Surgery. Is that a good decision to sit for MRCS too? My aim is to earn a quite handsome money for my livelihood as well as to obtain a higher degree. I am looking for better suggestions as my knowledge about higher studies in abroad is very little.

This is an old thread but still very informative. So, can we get a non-training job after MRCS easily? like we get a job after plab? And, chances for getting a training job after MRCS & plab are same?
