aoa vry 1 how r u ppl :-)
iv been thru all this while preparing 4 fcps 1 so i knw wat u wd b goin thru
well wat iv learnt thru xperinces ill b happy to share with u
1st thing to tell is dat u can get any information regarding dates of xams from cpsp regional offices
2nd dere is a booklet for 50rs regarding syllabus n pattern of part 1 or ny xam which u can get from ur regional cpsp office
the latest pattern of xam is as follows
PAPER 1 100 mcqs from subjects given below (plus im givin the books from which i studied n iv seen they r more than enough)
1Physio (BRS mini gyton)
2General patho(BRS no need to do special )
3General pharma(lippincot)
4Embryo (ectodermal endoderma n mesodermal derivatives pharyngeal arches pouches n general embryo n teratogenesis frm langman)
5Anatomy
a) gross anatomy of viscera (liver, heart, lungs kidneys from snell gross anatomy or high yield pituitry gland thyroid gland)
b) neuro anatomy (snell NA)
6 Histology
types of epithelia n where located, histology of lymph nodes, spleen, thymus salivary glands collegen elastin from high
yield histo
7 Biochem
from usmle 1st aid
8 micro javetz summaries n usmle first aid
ull also get Q from medical ethics n biostat these subjects were not included in my xam so i dn hav ny idea frm where to do these
PLZ NOTE sm1 here has given a v wonderful advice dat instead of reading many books read 1 book n keep on revising n revising
n do mcqs
wat i did was to study the chapter first n den do related mcqs from MURAD(this book contains MCQS from past papers n some MCQS can be repeated as it is ) also u can do mcqs from AZEEM n Q BANK
revise all the topics from usmle first aid it is a vvvv good book i found many Q that came in my xam were in this book cz it gives the most imp points in da topics
PAPER 2 is specialty related i gave part 1 in eye n got related q from anatomy physio pharma embryo patho of eye ny 1 interestd 2 knw more ill tell later on but paper 1 is da same for all specialities
best of luck n regards

i feel that some people are inherently against CPSP cos they are over-impressed of PLSB, STEPS(USMLE) or MRCP etc.

AOA
people ask advice about books. first 3 questions one should ask themselves:
1. how well/sincerly have I studied in medical college
2. how well i did my house job and was it in the subject i'm opting for now
3. how much time for preparation i have
Once you have answered to your questions, the following suggestions would make sense.
NOTE:
a. the following is main advice for medicine (but perhaps this can be used for other subjects.
b. if you are attmepting medicine, 3 subjects one should hav a grip with are: physio, patho, anatomy, only after these one should mainly consider pharma, biochem, micro and the remaining after it.
SCENARIO A: If you have NOT studied well, done an above average house job in the field you are opting for now and have a few months for preparation:
in general use relatively detailed books made for exams ie
physiology - BRS (preferably) or kaplan
biochem - kaplan
anatomy - snell review
neuroanat - high yield
embryo - high yield (small version)
histology - high yield
micro - jawetz review(aka levinson) or
First Aid
pharma - kaplan or katzung review
patho - brs or kaplan
immunology - jawetz review
Questions - murad and azeem shekih and pool questions from wherever u can get them from
SCENARIO B.
you have MINIMUM TIME for prep (e.g. 1 month), but have done a average house job in the subject you are opting for and have done well in medical college
SIMPLE:
1. read 'FIRST AID USMLE STEP 1' every word and every page, at least 3 times.
2. practice questions from murad, azeem sheikh and pool questions
3. if you think ur speedy enough then do go through physio BRS, patho BRS and snell review, otherwise stick to FIRST AID
again this is just a suggestion, simply go thru all books yourself for a period of one hour and ask urself have u got the time to read, understand and memorise all this... and choose books accordingly

PS: oh ya just one thing, plzzzz make sure u dont read two books for just one subject, just read one!!!!
and be confident.... all doesnt only matter upon how much you have studied, it also depends upon how well are you prepared in terms of confidence, sleeping/waking habits, approach to any MCQ, jogging you memory from one topic to another.......
and plz attmept questions before starting ur revision so that u become sensitized to imp knowledge and also this will identify the things u know, and make sure that the things u know, u just dont keep revising them, becoz if u can recall them now (i.e. having read them a long time back in medical college) then surely u will be able to recall them a few months later in the exam.
good luck!

CPSP was supposed to act as "Examination Body", just like the Royal Colleges. Unfortunately, it has become more involved in training and hospital affairs than examination.

The biggest Baboon at CPSP was "SHAHIDA NAGI" who caused too much loss to trainees and CPSP

Salaamz everyone,
I recenty got thru part1 in surgery and 2 of my friends got thru in radiology!
So u can ask specific questions if you want.....
Books recommended here are good. Just make sure for radio you guys do your anatomy exceptionally well! Try the clinical blue boxes of KLM anatomy apart from the review books that u r using (u can use snell review/BRS/rapid review for anatomy)......I liked RR clinical stuff really well, and it supplemented my kaplan anatomy.
Good Luck!
