I would definitely second Dr Gill..... This is high time that we get out of our traditional mind set of becoming surgeons and medical specialists only....... I have a greta regard for both of them and basically they were, are and will be the ones leading the medical sciences but still we need to explore new avenues and REHABILITATION MEDICINE is one of them.... It is a wonderful spciality with kots of potential specially in a developing country like Pakistan..... It deals with all aspects of disability for which no other speciality is willing to take responsibilty eg What a spinal or neurosugeon has to offer a young paraplegic or quadriplegic with complete lesion 2 to cord transection....all they can do is spinal fixation which wont improve the outcome as the cord is irreversibly damaged so HERE IS THE ROLE OF REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN.... who will make and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for him in order to ensure his smooth transisiton into the main stream society as auseful memeber rather than a crippled....... and the list goes on like stroke survivors, head injury, amputees , rheumatological disabilities....... So definitely go for it and you will feel the differenece
Other strong points of this specilaity are Electrodiagnostics, neurology, Orthosis and prostheitcs, disability assesmant and management etc
So welcome to a whole new world

HI
U Welcome,i wud like to share a quote which dresses the PM&R in words like this;
"Modern medicine adds years to life but Rehab Medicine adds life to those years"
in this, u will be dealing with the patients, no one is ready to deal with, coz they dnt ve any thing to offer...like
Wat a doc has to offer to a stroke survivor beside a tab Dispirin?
wat a surgeon to a broken spinal colum beside a Rod and indwelling cathetor?
wat to a CP child?
it has various fields u can further subspecilalize in...
1.Electrodiagnosis NCS/EMG
to diagnose Polyneuropathies, myopathies,
nerve injuries ,.. the whole neurology.
2.Prosthetics/orthotics(artificial limb tech)
3.Rheumatological Rehab
4.Geriatric rehab
5.Paediatric Rehab
6.Spinal cord injury (SCI) Rehab
7.Sports medicine
8.Orthopaedic medicine excluding fractures
U can contact Dr Kirmani at Ma Ayesha Hosp who is Dean PM&R CPSP Kci (1000-1300 hrs)
Have a good time.

I think u people dont know about this person Dr.Khalid Jamil. He is an actor and the biggest fraud. He himself is not FCPS but did only 6 months course on physical medicine and get the honorary degree of FCPS. He uses his links and cash his disability.
I will keep u people inform more about it.

Yes I know he(Khalid Jamil) spent most of the time on PTV. This is not a criteria for an efficient and able doctor. He shud b called 'behrupia'.

Well we are not here to discuss people.and i do agree that some of the things that Dr Khalid do are not ethically right but the specialty of PM&R is for real and people should not be discouraged just because some body from that specialty is not working on the right moral grounds........But despite all his mistakes you will appreciate that this gentleman helped many disabled to earn an honorable living in this country where the society throws them in the back yard of disabled and useless

You r right and i do agree with your policy.
But if something is going wrong publically and someone is making fool to others and crossing the moral grounds PM&R shud think on this and tell the people reality. That what i did. I assure you that I m 100% correct and confident in my statement and i know a lot more about 'this' person.
I think we shud b honest to ourself and to others.
