How to encourage people to be more active in research?
Dear Colleagues,
Its very disappointing at times to see that not many talented individuals do not recognize the importance of research in medical sciences.
Often the purpose is mere publication at times. That objective too also results in research that is not original; and merely just results in a few more pages in the world of literature.
This can often be judged by the number of citation the article receives, which often are not many if any.
I wanted your opinion as to how to encourage a culture of research in our country.
Looking forward to your responses.
Good Wishes,
Dr. PM Kasi.

Re: How to encourage people to be more active in research? The answer is not simple. We need to spread the message. Those who are willing, need support. Those who are not, will! once we start bringin in incentives.

Re: How to encourage people to be more active in research?
1 - Research is always cooperation. How do you expect from young doctor to do research(in reality they thing about maintaining job, getting specialization and money). It is the professors who should do publications and hire people for research. There should be no promotion if no real high impact factor publication.
2 - Culture of research in medical colleges schools should be developed like student scientific society(absolutely no politics)
3 - Qualified people with experience in research and medicine should be hired. For example(MBBS,+MSc in Life sciences +PhD Molecular medicine)
4 - In foreign countries you will not maintain job unless you dont do research.

Re: How to encourage people to be more active in research?
Well the first thing is to learn the basics of writing a paper / doing a research. You can visit PakMediNet Research Guidelines or CPSP Dissertation / Synopsis section and read it thoroughly. You can also get a good idea after reading research articles related to your field (local as well as foreign). As far as biostatistics is concerned, you can take help from an expert or you can calculate it yourself depending on your statistical knowledge.
Once you have clear idea, then start after making a plan of your research (research proposal / synopsis). You can even post your research synopsis for expert opinion at the PakMediNet Research Proposal submission.
Best of Luck!
