Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;50(2):102-4.

Hypospadias is a congenital defect of the penis resulting in an incomplete development of the anterior urethra. One in 300 boys have hypospadias. MAGPI (meatal advancement and glanulo-plasty) operation is simple in prinicple and safe in practice, but it does require excellent surgical technique. Hence a prospective study was designed, to see the results of MAGPI procedure in our settings. This study was carried out from June 1995 to June 2000 at Nishtar Hospital, Multan. Forty cases of distal hypospadias with age range 2-13 years were treated. Out of 40 cases, 10 were glandular, 20 coronal and 10 sub-coronal. All the patients were submitted for MAGPI. No urinary diversion was done in any case. An urethrocutaneous fistula was seen in one case of 13 years of age (2.5%) and meatal retraction was seen in one case aged 11 years (2.5%) and 95% good results were obtained both functionally and cosmetically. MAGPI operation is safe and simple procedure for distal hypospadias repair in our settings.
