Immunization status of children admitted in Pediatrics department Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

This is a hospital based descriptive study carried out in the department of pediatrics Postgraduate Medical Institute Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar from 15th March to 15th September 2003. The objective of the study was to know the Immunization status of the Children admitted to the Hospital. Children aged 1-5 years with different disease admitted in Pediatrics department were included in the study. Five hundred cases were screened during these 6 months for the vaccination of the 6 infectious diseases, as Hepatitis B vaccination was not included in EPI program during our study so it was not included. Full immunization for these six diseases were received only by188 children i.e (37.6%), while 312 (62.4%) were having either partial or no immunization (110 partially Immunized 202 un immunized). The defaulter rate for BCG and measles was highest that is 181 (36.3%) and 187(37.4%) respectively while it was least for polio that is 40(8%) only. These results show that there are some problems, which needs to be looked into and need to be solved.
