Open preperitoneal Mesh hernioplasty (Stoppa`s repair) for bilateral groin hernia.

Objective: To assess Stoppa`s technique for bilateral inguinal hernia and its outcome. Design: Prospective interventional study. Place and duration: Lahore General Hospital, Lahore from Jan 2003 to Dec 2004. Material and Method: In a total of thirty adult patients with bilateral primary or recurrent groin hernia, Stoppa`s technique was adopted. Results: In study there were twenty patients with recurrent and ten were of primary Inguinal hernia. Mesh insertion was successful in all cases and there was no major operative complication. There was one case of Heamatoma and three cases of postoperative infection, however the did not require removal in any case. 90 % (27) of the patient were satisfied with the procedure. Conclusion: OPPM is an attractive technique for controlling bilateral inguinal hernia. It is easy to learn and should be procedure of choice for selective bilateral Groin Hernia whether primary or recurrent.
