Renal function in Patients undergoing Cardiopulmonary Bypass Operations.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;47(2):68-9.

This study evaluated the short term effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on renal function. A selected group of 21 patients undergoing CPB for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery having normal serum creatinine were studied. Serum creatinine levels were performed in all patients before the operation, at postoperative day one and day 3. Mild transient impairment of renal function (serum creatinine greater than 1.1 mg/dl but less than 2.0 mg/dl) occurred in 54% of patients. In conclusion, it was observed that CPB causes transient renal dysfunction that was not sufficient to manifest clinical renal impairment.
