Ann King Edward Med Uni Jan ;7(1):38-40.

This prospective study was carried out in Surgical Unit 111, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad to find out the incidence of abdominal would dehiscence in laparotomy wounds (Paramedian / Midline) closed with Vircyle No. 1. A total number of 60 patients were included in this study from May, 1999 to June, 2000. Mass closure of laparotomy wound using vicryl No.1 was found to be associated with 8.3`/o incidence of dehiscence. Paramedian incisions healed better and with minimal complications. Closure with Vicryl No.1 was not associated with stitch abscess or sinus formation, the two complications often seen in wounds closed with prolene (non-absorbable suture).
