Outcome of ICSI as a treatment option for infertility.

Objectives: To determine the outcome of ICSI-IVF Study Design: Quasi experimental interventional study, conducted over one year period on fifty patients, at Lahore Institute of Fertility and Endocrinology by convenience sampling. Results: Fifty patients studied over one year period. 41(82%) were less than 35 years. 29(58%) had primary infertility. Duration of infertility was up to five years in 22(44%) and 28(56%) presented with six or more years of infertility. In 30 (60%) couples the sperm count was abnormal. On ovarian stimulation 32(64%) women had 6–10 follicles and 12(24%) had 11–14 follicles. In 38(76%), the follicular size was 18 to 20mm. In 27(54%). 1-2 embryos were transferred. Overall pregnancy rate was 28%. The pregnancy rate was 43% up to the age of 30 years, while it was 19% from 31 to 35 years. Conclusion: ICSI is an effective technique for infertile couples. Pregnancy rates can be further improved if younger women opt for treatment.
