Pediatric Surgical Rotation for Residents in Pediatrics.
J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;10(2):73-4.

The traditional training programme for residents in paediatrics does not include paediatric surgery ward rotation. With the improvement in provision of health facilities, paediatricians are now examining almost all newborns delivered at hospitals and they are also involved in examination of newborns at the time of immunization. Paediatricians man the emergency services for children in childrens hospitals as well as general hospitals with paediatric units and are the first to evaluate children with surgical problems. A study was conducted to assess the knowledge of paediatric residents at National Institute of Child Health, Karachi with regard to commonly encountered surgical problems. The study showed that none of the DCH students (n=20) and seventeen FCPS Part II postgraduates (n-20) secured the minimum required marks. This emphasizes the need for surgical rotation as part of postgraduate training in Paediatrics.
