Pak J Health Jan ;35(3-4):82-5.

The initiation of pathogenesis precede the clinical onset of diabetes by several years. The present study was planned to evaluate the predisposition of disturbance in the carbohydrate metabolism if any in local diabetic related healthy population. The mean fasting plasma glucose levels of diabetic related females group were significantly higher than non-diabetic related females. According to age no significant change in plasma glucose level was observed in subjects < 30 years. Whereas the diabetic related subjects with age > 30 years had significantly raised plasma glucose levels. A significantly raised plasma glucose levels of first and second degree females relatives of diabetics was observed as compared to control females group. Thus closeness of relation did not appear to be related to higher glucose levels in diabetic related females.
