Clinical Update Antimalarial Drugs in Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria.
J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;10(12):484-8.

Malaria, one of the life threatening diseases, causes significant morbidity and mortality in children. Increased prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum along with emergence of chloroquine resistance has further worsen the situation. Recognition of severe falciparum malaria and its prompt treatment is necessary to prevent the complications and deaths. In antimalarial drugs, chloroquine remains to be the drug of choice. In case of non-responder other antimalarial can be used. Life threatening and serious conditions should be treated with injectable drugs like quinine or artemether. Use of other drugs, as first line of treatment, should be avoided.
