Olfactory Neuroblastoma.

Olfactory neuroblastome/esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare malignant tumour of the olfactory neuroepithelium. This is a report of 5 cases managed over the last 10 years at Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. Age of the patients at presentation ranged from 27 to 70 years. The main symptoms were unilateral nasal obstruction and intermittent epistaxis. The mean duration of symptoms at presentation was 11 months. Two patients were staged as B and 3 as C at presentation. The stage of the disease correlated with the duration of symptoms. All the cases were diagnosed on histopathology. Three were offered combination of surgery and radiotherapy. One patient received only surgical treatment and one patient received radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Combination of surgery and radiotherapy showed best results.

CASE REPORT: This is a retrospective study of five case of olfactory neuroblastoma from the record of department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. All the patients included in the study were male. The details regarding age, duration and clinical features are given in table I. There was no evidence of cervical or distant metastasis in any patient. Surgery and postoperative radiotherapy was planned in all the cases, though one patient (20%) refused surgery. He received combination of radiation and chemotherapy adriamycin and dacarbazine. Two patients (40%) are on regular follow-up and are disease-free, one for the last 10 years. Management of Follow-up and the other for the last 6 months.
