The effect of cigarette smoking on testosterone in young male adults of Peshawar.
J Med Sci Jan ;19(2):106-8.

Objective: The aim of this study was to see the effects of smoking on serum testosterone concentrations in young male adults of Peshawar. Material and Methods: A comparative study involving 155 young adult students of Peshawar region. Out of these 15 were smokers and 140 were non smokers. Serum testosterone was analysed by Radio Immuno Assay method on gamma counter. Results: There was no statistically significant difference (P<0.129) in serum testosterone concentration in smokers and non smokers. Conclusion: We conclude that smoking has no significant effect on the levels of testosterone. There is no evidence to suggest, therefore, that smoking status may be a confounding factor in association studies demonstrating a link between low levels of androgens and coronary heart disease.
