Serodiagnosis of viral hepatitis E by exclusion of other acute viral hepatitis (AVH) markers.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;7(2):15-9.

Sera of 53 adult patients presenting with acute viral hepatitis (AVH) were tested for different seromarkers of AVH which included HAV IgM (IgM antibody to hepatitis A virus), HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen), anti-HBc IgM (IgM antibody to hepatitis B core antigen), anti-HCV (antibody to hepatitis C virus) and anti-HDV (antibody to hepatitis delta virus). Two (3.77%) patients were suffering from acute hepatitis A, 14 (26.42%) were positive for markers of acute hepatitis B, 3 (5.66%) had acute hepatitis D, while 13(24.53%) were suffering from hepatitis C. One patient (1.89%) had heaptitis C and D coinfection. Twenty (37.74%) patients were negative for any seromarker of AVH and are likely to be cases of viral hepatitis E.
